How to Apply
Step 1: Read this website
Before beginning your application, read this website carefully and familiarize yourself with Teach For China’s history, mission, and approach. Teach For China conducts information sessions at a number of Chinese and American universities. Learn more about these via our On Your Campus page.
Step 2: Check your eligibility
All applicants for the 2012 Fellowship class must have received a Bachelor’s degree by July 2012 and speak fluent English.
Step 3: Review application dates
The final application date for US Applicants to the 2012 Fellowship class has passed. All accepted applicants who commit to joining the Fellowship will undergo training in July 2012 and begin teaching in Fall 2012.
The application for the 2013 Fellowship class will become available summer 2012.

Step 5: Prepare For Your Phone Screen
After carefully reviewing applications, our selections team will invite promising candidates to a 30-minute phone screen with a Teach For China staff member.
In some cases, exceptionally promising applicants may be invited to the in-person interview without an initial phone screen.
Step 6: Prepare For Your Interview
Applicants that demonstrate strong potential will be interviewed during a group interview day. Depending on the number of selectors at a given location, group interview days typically consist of 4 to 12 candiates. The group interview locations are as follows: San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Washington, D.C., Boston, and Chicago. Invited candidates will be informed of interview dates by email.
The group interview includes:
- A mock teaching exercise
- A group discussion
- A one-on-one final interview
In the event that it is logistically impossible for a candidate to attend a group interview, a two-round phone interview will be arranged. However, Teach For China strongly encourages all invited applicants to join the in-person interview process. Past applicants have found that the opportunity to meet with other candidates and staff in person provides an invaluable opportunity to learn more about Teach For China and determine whether the Fellowship is a good fit.
Step 7: Wait for a decision
Candidates will be notified of their program admissions status approximately 2-4 weeks after final interviews.
